Thank you!

Thank you to everyone who came along to our Concert “Pick ‘n’ Mix” on Saturday 9th June, or were with us in spirit! We had a wonderful evening singing pieces from the Beatles, a Bond Medley, Les Miserables and more!

We were also privileged to enjoy music from the extremely talented young people of the Senior Brass Ensemble of Solihull Music Service and their great conductor Mr Bull. We are delighted to tell you that we raised £182 for the National Autistic Society!

It was also our final concert with the fabulous Caroline as Musical Director, and we are so grateful for all the hard work she has put in over the 9 years she has been our M.D. We look forward to introducing you to our new Musical Director Rosie at our Christmas Concert!

Thank You!

Thanks to all of you who came to celebrate Christmas with us and Shirley Brass Band. It was a great night and we even managed to raise £229 for Solihull Music Services. Thank you for your generosity!

We performed in the lovely church of St James the Great (in Shirley); which is really convenient for the choir since we rehearse just over the road in their church hall! New members are always welcome so feel free to drop in to any of our rehearsals where we will do our best to make you feel welcome.

We hope you all had a lovely Christmas and wish you all the very best for 2018. If you couldn’t make the concert, here is some of what you missed:

How Far is it to Bethlehem
Angels, from the Realms of Glory
Sussex Carol
Shepherd’s Pipe Carol
I Saw 3 ships
Sans Day Carol
Christmas Star
Here Comes Santa Claus
Sleigh Ride
A Very Merry Christmas
Silver Bells
Wonderful Christmastime
Zither Carol
We Wish You a Merry Christmas

It being Christmas we just had to sing some traditional carols too and it was a joy to see everyone joining in. Solihull Youth Brass Band also performed several pieces adeptly and really kept the festivities going; unfortunately the list of what they performed has gone missing but please do get in touch if you have the list.

We’re now back to our regular Sunday night rehearsals – this time in preparation for our next concert, which is in March. More details on that soon.

Open Rehearsal

On Sunday 8th October 2017 the Fellowship Singers of Shirley are inviting you to an open rehearsal at 19:30 in the church hall opposite St James the Great Church on Church Rd, Shirley B90 2AX.

It’s a no-obligation opportunity for you to meet our friendly, supportive members and have some fun singing together. Then it’s entirely up to you if you want to join us or not.

We don’t hold auditions. It doesn’t matter how good or bad you think you are. It doesn’t matter if you can’t read music. All you need is to enjoy singing and be available on Sunday evenings to practice. if you’re tempted to swap the bathroom mirror for a proper audience then concerts tend to be on a Saturday evening three or four times a year.

We sing a lot of different types of music. Just look at our last concert where we sang songs by The Beatles, songs from classic musicals, a splash of folk music followed by songs from modern musicals.

Past concerts have also included classical, religious, modern pop, classic pop, rock, jazz, swing and modern choral music. We’re always buying more too, so there should always be something for everyone.

Christmas is our next concert and we have just as varied a repertoire of Christmas music but we haven’t started rehearsing for it yet. So now is an ideal time to come and try us out before we raid the filing cabinet labelled “Christmas”.

You can keep in touch with us on our Facebook page at fb.com/FellowshipSingers.

You Are Amazing!

Yes, you read that correctly; £292 (and 6 pence) was raised at our recent Aspects of Love concert at Our Lady of the Wayside, Shirley!

Thanks to everyone that came, we are certain that your generosity will be greatly appreciated by the MS Society.

It was a new venue for us and, as ever when at a new place, we weren’t sure how it would go. However, we felt very welcome to be there and enjoyed it very much. Hopefully it showed in the singing!

We got to sing some of our favourites at this concert. Beauty and the Beast is a good opportunity to be a little more theatrical than normal. Tequila Samba was a lot of fun (and to think we were scared of the syncopation in this one when we first started learning it!).

For those that couldn’t make it, here is what you missed:

Tequila Samba

Eleanor Rigby

Michelle

Yesterday

Feelings

Misty

All the Things You Are

Dashing Away with the Smoothing Iron

A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square

Make You Feel My Love

The House of the Rising Sun

Geordie

I Believe my Heart

I Know Him so Well

Love Changes Everything

Beauty and the Beast

We also had some fabulous soloists during the show, on a range of different instruments. The whole evening was a musical treat (but then we would say that wouldn’t we!).

We will have a few more rehearsals before we go on our summer holidays so if you’re tempted to join then feel free to come along on Sunday nights at 19:30. We rehearse at St James’ Church Hall, School Rd, Shirley. Details are on the calendar.
